The wait is finally over. Tomorrow, March 3, 2026, Bungie pulls back the curtain on Marathon, their first non-Destiny project in a generation. With the "Final Extraction" closed beta kicking off at 10 AM PT, here is everything you need to know about the most anticipated FPS of the year.
Welcome to Tau Ceti IV Forget the space magic of Destiny; Marathon is a gritty, high-stakes extraction shooter. You play as a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary dropping onto a derelict colony to scavenge "artifacts" and alien tech.
The Stakes: If you die, you lose everything on your person. If you extract, you use your loot to upgrade your "Chassis" (character body) and weapons.
Oxygen is Life: Unlike other shooters, your main timer is your O2 tank. Combat, sprinting, and environmental hazards drain it faster, forcing a constant choice between one more loot crate or heading to the extraction zone.
The "Traversal" Engine Bungie has confirmed Marathon uses a new proprietary physics engine.
Gravity Boots: Players can move on magnetic walls and ceilings in specific areas, creating truly 360-degree combat arenas.
No "Classes": Your playstyle is defined entirely by your gear. Want to be a tank? Equip heavy armor plating. Want to be a scout? Swap for high-mobility servos.
How to Play Tomorrow The March 3rd test is for players who pre-ordered the "Founder’s Pack" or received a code via the Bungie website. Servers go live at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.
Are you going in solo for maximum stealth, or are you forming a 3-man Runner squad to dominate the extraction zones? Let us know your loadout plans in the comments!
